Bosthirda was a planet of the Sith Empire in the time of the Great Galactic War, close to Korriban and Dromund Kaas, and was located on the Kamat Krote trade route.

The primary starport was located in the city of Zevinda which serves as the capitol of the world. Additional starport access existed in the city of Jerunga.

It was best known as being the location of a Sith Temple and for being mostly rough wilderness.

History

The planet was a wilderness world filled with high mountainous peaks and deep valleys. A Darkside nexus was naturally located in the northern hemisphere which, over time, changed the flora and fauna of the world.

First Colonists

The first colonists were from the Sith Empire, over a thousand years ago. Most of these were Sith and their various support staff and retainers. A Sith Temple was built on the location of the nexus and became a place of retreat for many Sith. The settlement of Zevinda grew up around the star port and became the location where workers and support staff for the Sith Temple, and their families lived.

Eventually the tradition became such that pilgrims to the temple would go into the wilderness to test themselves against the creatures of the world. This increased the amount of traffic on and off world, though the population remained sparse.

A second settlement, Derivada, devoted to more exotic tests of alchemy, was started on in the Southern Hemisphere. These Sith sought to perfect the naturally occurring darkside creatures that had evolved on the planet and investigate the mysteries of the world.

The Derivada Incident

Approximately a hundred years after the initial founding of the Sith Temple, Derivada was founded on a plain on the southeastern continent. This smaller site was devoted to more extreme applications of Alchemy. The researchers had been ousted from the Sith Temple proper due to concerns over the radical natures of their experiments, and concerns from other Sith that the sometimes explosive experiments would end up killing everyone, or worse, seal the Nexus. After fifty years of internal fighting, the more "Extreme" alchemists relocated their research to Derivada. Driven by their hatred for their "softer" brethren, these Sith sought to find the outer reaches and limits of Alchemy and eventually came to embrace their remote location and semi-isolated nature. This research lasted for fifty-two years and yielded amazing results still studied and discussed by alchemists today.

However, the Grand Experiment ended in a catastrophic failure.

Details remain sketchy even in the current day due to the secretive nature of the researchers, but from pieced together archeological evidence, it can be concluded that the senior most researcher threatened, bribed, cajoled and bullied the others into what he called The Great Experiment. This was to be the crowning achievement of the Derivada facility and prove the Alchemists mastery over their craft and lead into their re-taking of the Sith Temple proper. The intended goal was a closely guarded secret. The result was very likely not the intended result and is widely regarded as an extreme failure and justification of ousting the Derivada researchers.

The experiment resulted in an explosion that caused powerful Force storms and tempests to ravage the planet constantly for the next three years, and which still form on occasion to the present day. Once the storms had mostly settled and Derivada examined, the scouts reported that perfect circle 333 Kilometers wide, centered on Derivada, had been formed by some sort of blast. Everything had been turned into a strange crystalline substance that appeared to be living; The rocks, trees, plants, animals and microbes, were all now constructed from this strange crystal. The site is currently guarded by a cadre of droids and patrols which monitor the area for expansion.

More recently, the crystalline structures located in the Derivada area have been found to be of such superior quality, the Gree have entered into quiet negotiations to acquire the raw materials for use in the construction of navicomputers and other high technology.

Post-Derivada and Current times

Following the explosion and resulting discoveries, the entire world was declared an Imperial Game preserve by the Emperor, and a governorship established near the Sith Temple.

Currently, the local government has issued multiple permits to small corporations and individuals allowing them to exploit the planet's natural resources, but the world remains largely untouched and increasingly wild.

Geography

Bosthirda has five continents; The Northern, the Western, The Eastern, the Southwestern and Southeastern.

The Northern continent covers the entirety of the northern pole. This continent is conversed almost entirely by snow and ice which extends off the actual landmass. The Northern continent has a peninsula and series of island chains which follows a volcanic ring of activity and extends south, past the arctic circle. This southernmost area is temperate enough to have a moderate level of flora and fauna.

Below the great Northern Continent, on the Eastern Hemisphere is a narrow sea. Across this sea is the Eastern Continent. Most of the civilized locations on the planet can be found here. The Continent is large and has two major mountain chains; the Ridgeback mountains and the Korin'ai mountains. The Darkside Nexus and Sith temple are located in the Ridgebacks. This continent doesn't extend past the equator but approaches it and is very broad.

Below this continent, starting approximately midway and heading west, is the Southeastern Continent. This continent is roughly triangular in shape with one tip starting below the equator and extending south and west

The Southwestern continent starts at the western edge of the Southeastern continent. This continent is the smallest on the planet and extends in a westerly and southerly direction. The sea between the two southern continents is filled with many islands.

The Western continent is separated from the other continents on all sides by a sea, but geological evidence suggests it was once connected to the Northern continental mass in the north.

The world is generally considered to be cool-temperate-to-glacial due to it's axial tilt and proximity to it's star. The two moons in orbit create a complex tidal table.

Flora and Fauna

Generally speaking, everything on Bosthirda is dangerous and would like to make a meal out of anything unwary. This is due in part to the naturally occurring force Nexus in the heart of the Ridgeback mountains, and in part as a result of generations of tampering from Sith Alchemists.

Flora

In the more equatorial regions, particular in the archipelagos and islands, it is quite common to find carnivorous plants. Some are large enough to eat small animals or even children.

Most of the world is filled with large forests. They are primarily coniferous on the Eastern and South Eastern continents. The other two continents are more mixed between coniferous and deciduous.

Most of these coniferous forests are notable as they are comprised of a few species of redwood which grow to exceptional heights. The average tree of this species reaches 200 meters easily with exceptional specimens recorded at nearly 450 meters. Trees are generally smaller on the Southern continents, which exceptional trees matching the average on the Eastern.

Noted among the redwoods are a species unique to the planet which produces an exceptionally hard wood that ranges from dark red to jet black, known generally as Blackwood. This wood is exported off world for use in fine furniture, ornamentation and musical instruments. It's availability is limited both by the danger involved in harvesting as well as the rare nature and the desire of the locals to keep it rare to maintain the sale prices at premium. Due to their great size and rare nature, only a small number trees (often less than a dozen) are allowed to be felled in a given year. Competition to find trees that match specifications, fell them and bring them in, is very fierce. The fines for logging without a permit and in the "off season" are exceptionally heavy.

Fauna

The planet is a wild and untamed world. Due to the nexus and the further machinations of Sith Alchemists, most of the predators on the planet are force-sensitive and intelligent. This has also resulted in the prey species these creatures eat also becoming cunning and somewhat surly. Nerfs brought by the first colonists have largely gone feral and over the last millennium, have transformed into mountaineering creatures that have violently thrown off the shackles of domestication bred into them over hundreds of thousands of years.

The local strains of tauntaun have likewise developed into massive, often ill tempered creatures, though it is commonly noted they have not achieved the viciousness of the feral Nerfs. Of note is the development of exceptionally large horns on males and females alike. It is thought that these defenses came as a result of the increasing danger from the local predators, and not from alchemical intervention. This has led to the local species of tauntaun to be highly studied and sought after.

Several apex predators stalk the world. Creatures of note include: akk-wolves, vorntigers, tuk'ata, and nexu. Tusked cats roam the Northern reaches. Terentatek are found primarily in the mountains near to the Sith Temple.

Economy

Growth industries in the system include a burgeoning tourist trade and asteroid mining, as well as government positions, construction and hunting. Some industries of special note:

Mining

Prospecting and small-to-medium scale asteroid mining operations have seen recent growth in the last decade.

Tourism

Popular tourist attractions include Safaris and cold weather sports. Much of this is centered around the town of River Run, though some tourism has expanded into the other major cities.

Logging

Logging is an important industry as the large forests and exceptional size of the trees on the world make it very cost effective even given the ferocity of the local wildlife.

Additionally, the rare and highly prized Blackwood trees provide a significant payday for anyone lucky enough, and brave enough, to survive the logging season.

Security

Given the nature of the wildlife, most companies and organizations that venture into the forests employ security forces to maintain perimeters and protect workers.

Hunting and Trapping

Hunted for sport, live export and their pelts, the dangerous wildlife has resulted in a specialized community of hunters and trappers.

Service

The Sith temple is served by a small workforce, as is the local government and the largest noble House, House Necare.

Population

The population of the planet and surrounding system constructs (small asteroid mining ventures, orbital stations) is approximately three million.

Points of Interest

Population Centers

Bosthirda is a sparsely populated world with few large cities. Most inhabitants live in small outpost settlements or bunker-like homes in the wilderness. A few upper-class estates exist outside the walls of the cities, most within east proximity of one of the star ports.

Zevinda

The capitol of the world and the primary Starport, the city of the Zevinda is the largest center of population on the planet. Like most inhabited locations it is surrounded by a high wall several meters tall and fairly thick to keep out the local wildlife. It has expanded beyond it's walls three times since it's founding. Construction on a fourth wall has begun outside the bounds of the city. Inside the city, parts of the innermost wall have begun to come down as the city grows and the ground previously occupied by the walls has become needed for infrastructure. Other portions have become the backbones of residential or business offices. The top of the second expansion has been converted into a municipal tram system.

The tallest buildings are only about 15 stories high. Most buildings in Zevinda have slanted roofs to shed winter snows and the streets outside the city center have been designed to facilitate the easy removal of snow during the winter months. In the commercial and business center, enclosed pedestrian walkways have been built on the second floor of most of the larger buildings, creating a network of foot-traffic and commerce that neatly avoids the deepest snows.

The Port is located off the center of the city and was once a walled in area disconnected from the city proper. Zevinda has since grown large enough to absorb the spaceport. The area surrounding the port supports a transient population and services for many of the fortune seekers, hunters, miners and visitors to the planet.
