Jedi Custodum

The Jedi Custodum

The Jedi Custodum is an enclave of the Jedi Order formed by the High Council to protect and preserve the fundamental tenets of the Jedi Order. Its core mission is to provide a unified organisation of the best and brightest of the Jedi, in order to further the goals of the Jedi Order itself and, by extension, the Republic.

Jedi Custodum is a heavy RP guild founded for the express purpose of facilitating Jedi RP. It is intended to act as a "home base" for Jedi characters, be they Guardian, Sentinel, Sage, or Shadow, as well as a platform for organising Jedi-related events and activities. As card-carrying members of the Jedi Order, Custodum (the word is plural!) are expected to be representative of the interests and behaviours of iconic Jedi Knights. Although opinions on the Jedi Code and the Jedi Council vary greatly, the Jedi Custodum generally uphold the values of the Code and the authority of the Council, and ultimately answer to Grandmaster Satele Shan.

Please be aware that characters dabbling in the Dark Side of the Force or romantic relationships are not in keeping with the guild's theme, and are generally not permitted outside of very particular RP circumstances. There is nothing wrong with RP involving either of the above, but being an IC member of Custodum generally means the character is a paragon of the Jedi Way, or in the process of striving to be. Custodum is happy to be involved in on-going RP relating to the above types of characters, but such characters are generally not members of Custodum themselves.

Joining the Jedi Custodum

If you have a Jedi character who you think would be a good fit, please contact an officer (Dassalya, Iaera, or Noth [Bren Akket in-game]) either in-game or through private message here on the forums. Note that we have two states of membership: IC and OOC. OOC, any character is free to join as an OOC member of the guild, even if they have no IC connection to the Jedi Custodum. Most members, however, will probably be IC: Jedi Knights of various stripes and colours who hold rank within the Jedi Order. IC ranks are given after an interview.

Due to the inability to discern an OOC rank from an IC rank when viewing a character simply by the guild tag under their name, we strongly prefer that all Jedi characters be IC members. This is less of a concern in characters that are obvious not Jedi (e.g. troopers, security personnel, and other non-Force sensitive affiliates).

Ranks of the Jedi Custodum

Ranks represent the IC position of a character within the Jedi Order. It is possible to join the Custodom as a Knight or even a Master, if that is appropriate for the character. On the flip side, a mere Padawan of the Custodum might be a senior and respected RPer in good standing with the guild. IC Jedi ranks do not necessarily reflect the standing of the player!  :) Everyone in the guild effectively has equal standing OOC -- apart from a handful of OOC officers to handle invites and other logistical issues, there is no OOC distinction between any of Custodum's ranks. An OOC member or Initiate has just as much say in the guild as a Jedi Master.

However! The higher on the totem pole you wish to join as, the more stringent the requirements are. Someone who wants to play an Initiate is almost always welcome no matter their experience, background, or character concept. If you wish to join as a Master, however, you must demonstrate the utmost dedication to portrayal of a Jedi, and you should probably have years of experience with roleplay (but please don't come and tell me how much experience you have -- it's usually evident very quickly, one way or the other!).

If you are not sure you fit these criteria, please check out the following threads!

Below are listed the ranks of the Custodum for reference, as well as a rough overview of the requirements for joining at a given rank.

OOC Member - The initial rank all new members start at before RP and IC considerations are made. Note that non-Jedi and others who are not IC Jedi Knights generally remain at this rank. Non-Jedi alts of guild members and inactive members are the most common holders of this rank.

Attache - Non-Jedi who are officially attached to the Custodum Enclave. Whilst the Jedi Custodum is a Jedi guild in theme, there are players within our ranks who excel at playing non-Force using advisors, guards, pilots and soldiers. Negotiation with guild officers may be required to play a character of this type.

Jedi Initiate - A young Jedi, still learning about the Force and who does not yet have a specific master. Whether you are an experienced roleplayer, or you are still new and want to learn about roleplaying a Jedi, almost anyone is welcome at this rank.

Jedi Padawan - A more experienced trainee, confident in the Force and generally the apprentice of a specific Knight or Master. Those who wish to join as a Padawan should have at least a basic understanding of Jedi and what they are about, and understand the fundamentals of RP.

Jedi Knight - A fully-trained Jedi, entrusted with representing the enclave and the Order throughout the galaxy. Many powerful and respected Jedi remain at this rank their whole careers. Anyone who wishes to join as a Knight should have a thorough grasp of both RP and the Jedi Knights, with significant experience with both.

Jedi Master - The wisest and most serene of Jedi may eventually be deemed Jedi Masters, supremely capable in all aspects of the Force and Jedi discipline. In addition to having an encyclopaedic knowledge and understanding of RP, Jedi, and Star Wars in general, prospective Master members should be reasonably active as a main or at least a frequently-played alt.

Grandmaster - A purely honorary title given to the nominal leader of the enclave, generally a Jedi Master. This is the guild-master!

OOC Rules

The OOC rules of Jedi Custodum are pretty straightforward:
  • Be a grown-up.
  • This is a game. RL always takes precedence. If you need to log out, log out.
  • RP is consensual. If someone doesn't want interference in their RP, respect their wishes.
  • Don't be an ass.
  • Even if not strictly interested in The Old Republic's in-universe narrative, players are advised to maintain a working understanding and respect for the overarching narrative.

If those sound like rules you can follow, great! If not, the Custodum may not be a good fit for you.
