I plan to be a seller. Do I need to provide more information than that?

Outside Realm / Re: Solo: A Spoiler Thread
« on: 05/30/18, 01:57:28 AM »
I don't have the time or brain cells to go too deep this late into the evening. I just wanted to say that I finally saw Solo today.

I was in total astonishment. I absolutely loved it.  I am delighted to the core that I came out of that film loving it as much as I did.  I was expecting to do a lot of flinching and grimacing.  I was highly dubious they would ever be able to get a film like this right.  I almost dreaded going to see it because of how worried I was that they would screw up one of the most beloved and important characters in pop culture history.  Instead, I left feeling overjoyed and inspired.

We all have our preferences and our reasons for liking or disliking Disney's offerings.  Unfortunately, I've felt a lot of frustration and disappointment over Disney's handling of The Force Awakens and, to a lesser degree, The Last Jedi.

When I compare the sequels and the anthology movies that have been made so far I recognized that what makes them uniquely differ from one another is their tone.  It's hard to explain tone.  Some people are very tone deaf while others get it on a level where it counts.  I wasn't expecting to be delighted by this movie in the slightest, but Solo nailed it out of the park for me and I am looking forward to watching it again.

So far I have enjoyed these anthology offerings much more than the sacred sequels.  I feel like they have more liberty to explore and expand Star Wars in ways in which the sequels cannot--not because it wasn't possible for the sequels to do the same, but because I think the architecture of the sequels isn't as strong as it should have been and that is something I attribute entirely to writing choices.  The Force Awakens lacked a lot of really, extremely crucial details that made the foundation for that movie, and consequently the entire sequel trilogy, have very shoddy legs to stand on.  In comparision, Solo delivered such a wonderful and brilliant balance of high adventure,  humor, lore and character development without ever leaving me feel like I was short changed or missing some important piece of the puzzle.

This movie did a lot to make me excited for the next anthology installment.  I truly hope we well see an Obi Wan movie made and that it, too, will get the balance right.

Thank you, Seraphie.

My sincere appreciation goes out to you and all those who helped support Dancer's Palace throughout the years.  I find it nothing short of incredible that it lasted for so long and wouldn't be surprised if it set the record for longest running weekly RP event in SWTOR's history.    :cheer: :write:  :cheer:

Cantina / Re: Roll Call - How active are you?
« on: 05/11/18, 05:51:43 PM »
I remain steadfast.  I am the old, discarded sock under the bed. No matter what you try to do to get rid of me, no matter how often you toss me in the trash, I keep turning up in a corner somewhere.  Whether it is at the bottom of the hamper, trunk of a car, under the water heater in the garage, or wedged under the sofa cushions conspiring with a stale Cheeto. I will never go away, though rarely am I ever seen.

That said, I do think us small-but-mighty Begeren Colonists were dealt a shitty hand with the last server merge.  It upsets me that the Devs never considered merging both East and West Coast RP servers together.  That was an incredibly inconsiderate decision on their part.  At first, I thought it was because of latency issues due to server locaions but when I learned they had moved all US servers over to the east coast I can see no good reason for them to keep both RP communities separated.  Begeren Colony, through no fault of its own, ended up continuing to be this isolated little RP island.  We're like the Cuba of Star Wars.  I've read in past posts how some players here have expressed misgivings about mingling with the Ebon Hawk community, but the fact is there are going to be jerks no matter where you go.  That generally applies to pretty much every RP community, big or small.

I agree with Karmic that every RP community needs storytellers to provide content for folks to sink their teeth in.  Storytellers, especially quality storytellers, are always going to be in demand and also hard to come by. Personally, I feel like the problems our little community faces is just a microcosm of what SWTOR faces at large, or any long-running MMO for that matter.  Players in general are ravenous gluttons for new content.  It is SO much easier to consume content than it is to produce content.  When the producers are saddled with only a skeleton staff and a limited budget you end up getting this huge imbalance of supply and demand.  It's like trying to keep a 24 hour buffet open for the morbidly obese when all they have is a vending machine.  Things are bound to get ugly sooner or later.

As a role player, most of what the game has to offer is secondary to me.  I play it, and I will enjoy bits and pieces, but ultimately my prevailing thought tends to be:  Is there anything here that I can use for RP?  That is how I generally approach SWTOR.  I regard the game as a really fun, expansive, colorful stage to help facilitate whatever story I would like to run for people I enjoy playing with.  I think that reason alone is why I've managed to play since launch without ever growing bored.  Sure, I'll take breaks from time to time just like everybody but if my interest in this game hinged on every morsel of new content I probably would have left a long time ago.  What keeps me engaged and interested is having stories to tell and having quality people to share those stories with!

As a fringe member of this small community I generally keep to myself and only occasionally comment on a few things whenever I have the time to articulate what I want to say.  I'm a slow writer and rather than toil all afternoon to craft a thoughtful and eloquent farewell I'd like to just lay it out, warts and all.

Iaera, I like you.  We may just be GSF acquaintances but I'm still disappointed to hear you are leaving because some recent turmoil has soured your enthusiasm to stay.  I would rather see you stick around than vanish into the sunset.

Most of us understand role playing is a fragile hobby.  I equate an RP community to a saltwater aquarium.  When things are going well you have this beautiful, vibrant world teeming with all sorts of incredible, wonderful things to admire and explore.  Of course, maintaining a saltwater aquarium takes a lot of effort, patience and dedication. The slightest imbalance can put the entire ecosystem in jeopardy.  It is work, but it is rewarding work so long as you have the help of like-minded people who share the responsibility.

So, I gather somebody took a shit in the tank.

Or perhaps it was a flashflood of diarrhea from multiple people?  It's not my business to know. What I do know is that whenever something like that happens it's inevitable that THE FEELING takes hold:  In our minds the tank is now polluted. The world we once cared for and spent so much time and energy nurturing has now become toxic and murky.  We no longer feel welcome in our happy place. Fuck this noise. I'm out. Time to pull up stakes and head to greener pastures.

If I were in your shoes I would probably be feeling alienated in my own online culture as well.  This is probably when a little time and perspective come in to play.  A major upset of any kind leaves us feeling like our wellspring of creative happiness has been irreparably poisoned. Unfortunately, that feeling is so strong that it completely trivializes everything else that is still genuinely good.

I've no doubt that as a long-standing GM you've been tempered by all manner of in-game strife over the years.  Considering that role-players in particular have a penchant for melodrama I can well imagine how frustrating and draining it can be to simply maintain for the sake of keeping the peace.  I've read enough of your posts and heard enough about your guild's exploits over the years to appreciate both your levity and your passion for Star Wars.  I respect you for having been a pillar for this community and I say this with the full understanding and appreciation that it is not easy being a pillar.  More often than not pillars tend to be taken for granted.

Iaera, all I ask is that you don't let a turd in the tank completely kill the love for what you've helped cultivate here.  Judging by how many people here you've bid farewell and by how many others have responded with a degree of respect and gratitude at your departure it seems to me my proverbial fish tank may not be as polluted as it may seem.

You will be missed.  I hope to see you around again.  Yes, all good things come to an end.  Maybe the same can be said for all bad things as well.  A wise man (i.e. homeless wino) once grabbed me by the shoulder and said, "May your inspiration take you wherever the fuck it needs to go!", so I will leave you with that.

I wanted to offer some well deserved praise, Dassalya. These are some beautiful pieces and I look forward to seeing whatever offerings you're willing to share.  Drawing is a skill that requires endless hours of toiling.  It takes a tremendous degree of patience and perseverance.  I'm not surprised it took a couple of months of off-and-on work to achieve what you did with the Cathar commission. Her body proportions, shadowing, pose, texturing are all incredibly impressive!

I am good to attend once again. My low ranking, bowl cut and 70' mustache-toting Sith is more suited for diplomacy than underworld shenanigans so he would work best in the Sith delegation group. I can be available most evenings as long as I have time to plan my schedule in advance.

Sorry that you lost your name in the merge.  Have you tried sending an in-game mail directly to whomever owns your name?  Maybe they're not very attached to it and would be open to deleting or renaming their character if you offer to compensate them.

The Trading Floor / Re: WTB Massive Anti-Aircraft Turret
« on: 12/09/17, 10:36:00 AM »
I occasionally see these being offered up in Trade chat on most servers so I'll keep an eye out and let you know if somebody is selling one for your asking price.

Also, this is one of two decos with very, very similar names:

1) "Massive Anti-Aircraft Turret"  Drops from the Explosive Conflict Operation.

2)  "Massive Anti-Air Turret"  Can be found in the Seneschal's Stronghold pack.  This one has an animation of a rotating turret that fires blaster bolts into the sky.

Both are pretty rare and very expensive.

Hey gang,

After a couple of weeks toiling around, I finally completed a starfighter-themed stronghold located on Manaan.  With all my strongholds and decos that got consildated from the merger I thought it would be a fun project to design one of them as an optional hub for starship aficionados.

I chose Manaan mainly because of its neutral, remote, open atmosphere and its moderate size, which I felt worked best for what I had in mind.  I adopted the Alliance theme so I could justify displaying starship decos from both factions.

The stronghold has the following amenities scattered throughout:  GTN, Cargo, Legacy and Guild storage bays, Appearance Modification Station, Fabricator Droids, Jawa Scrap Peddlers, Felusia Stato Deco Merchant and a Contraband Cartel Slot Machine for those who still need to grind reputation with the Contraband Resale Corporation.

I thought it would be fun to keep this stronghold exclusive and reserved for members of Begeren Colony only.  If you are interested in receiving a key please feel free to contact me and I'll get a key out to you as soon as I am able. Just let me know your character's name, which faction they belong and a general idea of when you normally log on.

I made a special MS Paint to illustrate my reaction to having to fly against @Elaeis :

Heh!  Thanks for the both the praise and the funny.  That same picture comes to mind whenever I think about how many millions of hours I've poured into GSF.   :nuu:

Tried out GSF this morning. Was pretty fun, and I only does once and not because of self-destructing! That's a win for me! Is there a GSF chat channel too? I could get into this!

The GSF chat channel indeed exists and can often be a forum for the usual mudslinging, bragging and trash talking that occurs on most PVP channels but there are also friendly people in there who might offer a few pearls of wisdom.  The Galactic Starfighter forums on the SWTOR website are also filled with a ton of topics on ship builds, tactics, etc., but it gets very overwhelming pouring through thousands of posts on the subject.  A lot of that information is also now obsolete with the new changes made from the recent patch.  Of course, if you ever have any questions feel free to post them in the GSF thread and I'm sure we can help point you in the right direction.

While I would love to join the fun I am sharing the same engagement with Niarra that evening, though I may be queued up for an hour or so in the late afternoon.

I'm also working on a Begeren Starfighter's Lounge stronghold based on Manaan.  I chose that locale because it was a neutral location and just the right size to serve as a private hub.  I currently have it set up to represent both Republic and Imperial factions with a few Alliance decos to tie it all together.  I'll post an update when it is done.

Adding a BC flight night to the Event calendar sounds like a fun idea.  If there is enough interest perhaps it's something we could schedule once or twice a month.  It would be nice to group up with some familiar names and see how we fare against the Harbinger majority.  It would be especially satisfying to demonstrate our collective quality to a few jerks out there who have been known to insult, ridicule and dismiss the folks from Begeren as "non-competitive".

I decided to follow up on an idea that came about a few months ago and design a "Starfighter's Lounge" stronghold to serve as a prospective hub for BC's pilot community.  It may not be required but considering the pile of strongholds that will be grandfathered in from Bastion and Harbinger I figured why the hell not?  I have a few alts on standby with some appropriate names for this project but that will ultimately depend on which names survive the server merge.  If people were interested just let me know and I'll be sure to send out some keys once it is finished.
