Umbara Stronghold - Integrating into Lore and RP

Since we've heard from the horse's mouth that there will be an Umbaran SH (in the form of a moving train) released next month, I'd be curious to hear from the community what plans you have to incorporate this new SH into your RP. Thus far, I have only one idea for how I'd like to use it.

I'm considering using the Umbaran SH in RP in a similar manner to how certain nations employed the use of military trains in WWII. Some of these nations had plans to use trains as sort of mobile command centers for senior leaders to prevent targeting by enemy forces.

That's the idea I'm going with right now; to accommodate for the Umbaran environment, I think I'll have IWSC "discover" another player-made planet in Wild Space.

Let me know what plans you all have for using this new area for RP.

The few screenshots of Umbara I've seen make it look like it would fit a swamp environment; would that possibly mean a transport system on Belkadan?

Though Umbara looks kinda like someone put it to the torch. I have a planet or four in that vicinity that fits that category, if we introduced military industry...

I don't know as the planet is not what I first imagined. I suppose I'll consider what to do with it if I ever actually get it. Might be January before I have time to sweat it it. However, I do want to run the FPs to get it. I want to encourage the devs to explore alternative ways of releasing strongholds.

I still want my rishi twilight sandy beach island. >.>

Hmm, just to toss a thought out there, maybe I could set one up as a treasury train.... shame those treasure chest decos are kinda scarce.

Josh makes a good point. We could simply RP the Umbaran SH environment as part of the Belkadan landscape, perhaps an area like the Nightmare Lands on Voss (an area heavily impacted by Dark Side influence) or perhaps simply Belkadan swampland at night.

Given that you've mentioned in recent IC posts about the ongoing insurgency (and...other problems) back on Belkadan, I would figure a mobile HQ would be something up your alley. As for me, I could probably figure something out...

Hmmm, could also be used as a rebel mobile base to be taken out on Belkadan. I expect, like my Manaan, DK and Coruscant strongholds, I won't set something permanent up there, but rather keep it available for rp events.

Do you mean specifically on Imperial side, or just in general?

I am super, super excited about this stronghold, because it just screams at me as a Game Master. I honestly can't think of any reason I would want to use it as a personal stronghold, but as a GM tool? Oh hells yes. The problem is not lack of idea of how to use it, but having too many ideas. I suspect this may be the only personal SH that I actually build up and tear down and rebuild repeatedly, just to make it work for a variety of events. Right now, though, I need to see it before I can decide what would work best, because seeing the aesthetic will make a big difference. Is it run down and industrial? Or futuristic and fancy?

Some ways I can think of to use a moving train set (all of which I already have event ideas brewing for) would be:

  • A luxury liner, a la cruise ship, where passengers book one or two days' stay to loop around Planet Whatever to gamble, dine, drink, and dance their weekend away. Whether players are here to just party, or to knock over the casino, either would be awesome.
  • A train moving the hoard of a military, crime lord, or government body from one spot to another, that is just begging to be robbed in a train heist.
  • A secret mobile lab where Evil Mad Scientists are conducting forbidden experiments that they don't want discovered or raided by authorities.
  • A train moving refugees from a war torn zone to a safe camp elsewhere on planet, on which some secret or spy is hidden so that the party has to investigate and root them out without letting harm come to the civilians.
  • A train on which a high-profile personage is being moved in secret, and which a party on a black ops or bounty hunting mission must infiltrate for a hit job.

The RP event possibilities for a moving train feel endless. I can't wait to get my hands on it and see what can be built!

I could see using it for personal RP for Karmic - either as mobile way of storing her Sith Artifacts or as various pleasure cruises/trains/whatevers...

As well as for various events as needful.

I'm looking forwards to this one alot, and I already have an idea for what I'd use it for. Balmorra; returned to a height of warfare with the war-scarred planet being subject to another focal point of both sides. To keep up with the constantly moving front lines, the Republic establishes a mobile fortress aboard the tracks. Anti-air cannon, heavy duty blaster turrets, maybe even a few artillery/rocket pieces.
It's sole purpose being to provide mobile fire support and house the troops required to defend it, as well as mount offensives. Similar to what Nicohlas described but with a focus on firepower.

Could be an area of roleplay for Republic military, visiting Jedi/diplomats, or perhaps an armoured and very well armed transport between one of many of Balmorra's weapons factories.

Shad'ra; an indecisive ex-mandalorian.
Gharzog; a happy-go-lucky gun for hire.

Isn't the Umbara stronghold going to be a moving hovertrain? They bigged it up as a unique setting for a SH.

Stay in touch when this thing launches. I can help by coordinating with you both and create some sets on my train to fill any gaps your initial designs leave behind. We can advertise them as ready-made sets for everyone's scenes, and then custom build to suit when asked.

Plus then we can run the damn content together and get it done faster.
I knew some of the Palace history, but not the bit about Jaade crashing that barge. That's good lore, right there.  :grin:
