I finally finished it. On the whole, it was ok, but not great.  Too much meandering, too much weird force nonsense for non-force users. Story!livia really really hated the way things went starting with that walk in the woods chapter. I am upset about SCORPIO though. Not that she screwed us over to set her children free, that made sense, but that she tried to kill us and sided with Vaylin at the end. Mostly, I think i am bothered by the lack of the agent story coming into play - I never released her control codes, and while I know that same story for all classes blah blah blah, if they were going to disregard something as significant as that, there should have been some kind of a nod to it. I am sure that in 5 years of complete freedom she would have had a significant chance of finding a way to bypass them, which would be fine, if it was acknowledged in some way. Even if it was just agent-outlander trying to bring them into play and her smugly responding that she'd surpassed the ability of that to restrain her.

My 65 year old mother, after being dead set against it for my entire lifetime, has decided that she would like to try again to learn to drive. The reasons for her change of heart mostly suck, but I am super proud of her nonetheless.

I think I was able to spend more quality (and decidedly not-quality) time with my parents in 2016 than I have total in the last decade.

My dad survived 2016.

My sister-in-law finally was able to have surgery to correct a something that has been a life-long issue.

I learned that 'trigger-finger' is a real medical condition.

The fact the the wheels got stolen off of my car last spring meant that I have nice, new tires for all the driving that I have been doing lately.

Semah got a really great, if rather terrifying, opportunity at work.

We got to meet Esk.

My mother got me a really thoughtful birthday present that (finally) got me started creating again.

I have had occasion to realize how enormously blessed (and/or lucky, depending on one's views) I am with where I am in life that I have the opportunity be able to do the things that I have needed and will need to do, and not only is it nice to be able to do what I can, it's nice to know how lucky that makes me.

I have also been extremely lucky to have the love and support of my husband, friends, and family - including many of the folks here at bc.org through what has been a really difficult year.

Oh, and I saw SO MUCH SCENERY, OMG.

 

3 is out due to The Choices of One and the Zahn book are pretty much all we have on the Chiss. With that said, the same book confirms 1 to be true, as Car'das can understand it ok; and 2 is technically possible.

I have always felt that with enough time, effort, and potentially some physical modification non-chiss would be able to speak enough cheunh to be understood. However, no self respecting chiss would ever admit that to be the case - at best they would tell them that the were no better at it than a babbling child. More of a chiss psychology thing and less of a truly impenetrable language thing.

ETA: There is also the fact that they would have to be self taught, given that no chiss would be willing to teach them.

The weapon thing was where Livia went from 'this sucks and I hate you all, but whatever, responsibility, greater good, whatever' to 'as soon as I find my husband I am going to seriously consider telling you all to suck it and leaving.' Not so much the 'ok we will help you imbue a special weapon even if that is dumb because what is it going to be a lightsaber rifle that shoots lightsabers?' as the '...i have to put this tine together by waving my hand like a stupid jedi and not actually using my hands to assemble it like the maker intended.'
