Ending the Reign of Nightmares (Closed)

((The first IC post is yours, @LarhrNaor - this is just to set the stage, as it were, heh heh...))

"The invasion of the Eternal Empire was the darkest hour for the Sith since the Great Hyperspace War, more than a millennium ago.

Back then, the Jedi were the enemy, and we were deceived into following a creature that sought to consume us all. The cataclysm on Nathema had been blamed on the Jedi, but I discovered - in my brief period as a mindless zealot of the Tenebrous Gospel - that it was in fact the work of Lord Vitiate, the creature who would call himself our Emperor. I had never thought to see such events repeated in my lifetime...a world consumed by a hungering would-be god, and the Empire for which we fought brought low.

And yet, in a short span, both occurred.

Following the death of the planet Ziost came Vitiate's new form - the Immortal Emperor Valkorion - and his grand 'Eternal Empire' of Zakuul. Within a year, his bloodthirsty scion, Arcann, brought both the Republic and the Empire to the brink of annihilation with disturbing ease. We surrendered, choosing to live to fight another day.

For the next four years, an uneasy peace - much like that which followed the Treaty of Coruscant - reigned over the galaxy, and I spent those years in a sort of exile. It could not last. It took one individual, known as 'the Outlander', to rally like-minded folk to make war against the Eternal Empire, and perhaps even topple it.

Yet there were those, like me, who saw those who answered the Outlander's call as traitors for abandoning their homelands to fight for a 'better cause'. Even with my own doubts as to the future of the Empire, which began with the revelation on Nathema, I could not follow the herds who flocked to Odessen. Thus, I returned to fight against Zakuul - not for the 'Alliance', but for the Empire. A new Empress had taken the throne in my absence, one who could act as a beacon of unity for a fractured society. Though I doubted her at first, she proved worthy to wear the crown.

Yet there were those who chose to fracture the Empire further, believing it to be weak and unstable, ironically making it more so with their selfish desires. One such was Darth Insomnius...a former Jedi archivist, and a nightmare of my own creation. Fortunately, however, I was able to awaken with that nightmare.

But I could not do so without an ally...and the ally I found was not who I expected."

It was a quiet night on Reydovan Prime, in fact, a bit to quiet. That was about to change, a bounty hunter named Larhr Bail, and his crew Tegan, Ooma, Wrawn, Viv, and his two HK units made their way down to the planet below. Not long ago, this same crew landed down after the attack and 'cleansing' of one of their cluster planets close by in the sector. Larhr tried to negotiate with peace rather than credits, however the Queen had no interest in her planets safety and instead told Larhr of the King's plans. Turning the planet into a skeleton army. What she didn't plan on was the fact that Larhr going to the Lister of the bounty placed on her head, a certain Darth Malagant.

After that encounter, Larhr agreed on the payment of the civilians lives to be spared and protected by the Empire and for them to not turn into slaved workers. For what Larhr knew, the deal was done, but this wasn't the first time dealing with a Sith. Hell, most of the contracting Sith had to be killed after the bounty was done when they tried to cross Larhr. Most of them on the going to the holonet news without a trace or clue of the killers identity. Something very few knew Larhr for, his tactics on staying hidden throughout his hunting exploits.

The D-5 Mantis and crew descended down into the planet's surface in a clearing not to far from the Palace. Once landed Larhr and his crew met at the crew bay to discuss their plans,
"Wrawn, Tegan, you two will stay close together and get as many civilians out of the kill zone area as possible. Ooma, you are small and quick, you scout the surroundings of the palace, WITHOUT being seen this time got it?" The man in question, a Gand that wasn't exactly known for his balance. "HK's, you two will silently take out any guards and stealth out of there if spotted. Viv, you stay with the ship and control it when I give you the signal."

Larhr's crew consisted of Tegan, who is a mean, red, giant of a Trandoshan that Larhr had saved from slavery on Nar Shaddaa. Wrawn, an old friend known from Larhr's previous group. Wrawn was an elder Wookie, but still had a lot of strength and energy still despite his age. Lastly, Viv, a custom made astromech unit Larhr built out of requisition he found on his homeworld. "Everyone understand their assignments?" The group nods and exit the ships hatch and make their way silently in the night using the darkness to their advantage on the way to the palace.

"Mess with my family, expect a war. One you will lose. My family is the most important thing in my life. We may not be blood related, but my love for them will carry me on through my life. You best start running now. Because when you do run, I won't give you much of a headstart."

The ship managed to avoid the Imperial patrols now taking hold in the other systems of the Reydovan Sector, and arrived within the system itself. The fighting on the ground had not gone to space, and so its approach to the capital was not impeded...or really, even noticed.

A man was seated at the controls of the craft, his movements mechanically precise - almost like a droid wearing the flesh of a living being. But he was no droid...the droid that had been on this ship, in fact, was in pieces on the floor behind him. His skin was as red as blood, his vestments were richly embroidered, and a lightsaber was worn at his belt. He had been a Sith Lord named Lord Destane, a Pureblood from a line dating back to the days of Adas, the great Sith king of Korriban. He had been Darth Insomnius' emissary to the Shadren court.

The emphasis was "had been". The day before, Lord Destane had been killed by Queen Vedriat Azeara in the audience chamber of the Zalfari Outpost on Shadren V. He had abandoned Insomnius' cause, and sworn he would not kneel to Vedriat, either - and so, in a heated duel, she had killed him. The essence of the man in the Force was gone, and that was the first thing a Force user would notice. Even without the Force, one would notice a few things. His eyes were glassy and...well, dead. He did not blink. He did not speak. He did not even breathe. Through the power of the Force, Vedriat had reanimated his soulless corpse and given it a task.

A task, ironically, that Darth Malagant had given to the hunter on the planet below. Though Vedriat did not know that...

The corpse sent a tight-beam transmission to its destination: The Palace of the Mountain Shadow in Montagne Noire, the planetary capital of Reydovan Prime. It used the vocabulator of the pilot droid to announce that it was the Fury interceptor Hamadrya, returning from Shadren V...

----

In the Palace, Darth Insomnius stood on the balcony and looked down below at the eerily silent boulevards and plazas. Only a handful of loyal soldiers remained in the building, but Insomnius believed she was capable of handling an attack by rowdy peasants. Or even bounty hunters. She had killed three who had tried to claim the ten million credit bounty on her head.

"Your Excellency," one of those guards reported, "Lord Destane has returned from Shadren."

"No doubt in failure." Insomnius was grim. "Allow him to land, and send him to me..."

In Larhr's weapon list he was always loaded when it came to weaponry: Three blaster pistols, two holstered on his hip and one housed in a safezone in his jetpack, a rifle that could be used as both an assault and sniper rifle, a lightsaber he keeps hidden behind his kama, his wrist gauntlets loaded with missles, railshots, electro nets, sleep darts, electro darts, the works, in his jetpack was a single rocket, and last but not least two hidden blades inside the upper part of his gauntlets for stealth attacks. Sure he had vibroknives and two extremely sharp spikes in his boots, but they were not planned on being used.

Before reaching the wall, Larhr kneels down behind a treeline and brings up his wrist com just under his chin,
"Probe droids oh-one, through oh-eleven, scouting protocals now. High in the sky and stay in the dark. Oh-twelve through fourteen, you go to the gates and escort any civilians sent to you by Tegan and Wrawn and bring them to the ship for shelter." From the D-5 Mantis, thirteen small probe droids hover out into the night sky above, all of them hand crafted and painted to blend in with the night sky above. They slowly fly over various areas of the wall and begin taking video feeds along with multiple pictures of the surroundings ahead of the bounty hunter's crew.

Tegan and Wrawn were already at one of the side gates and noticed little to no resistance when it came to guards and rioters. They walk through the gates hooded and robed, now they may look like very large monks, or just a couple of lost travelers on the planet. After entering the inner walls they make quick work to heading over to the palace. They'd spot a few homeless children nodding to each other telling them to find the probe droid at the designated spot to follow them back to the ship. The Wookie and Trandoshan had one of the more easier jobs of the group, however they were carrying their rifles just in case of a scuffle. Between the two they gather around fifty civilians all of them ranging from children to elders, humans to aliens to go to the D5-Mantis. So far, so good.

Ooma the Gand, was already at the south gate of the palace. Being a Gand he knew he may stick out like a sore thumb, however he had a plan that just so happened to be arriving at the gateway. A large group of elders and robed men and women were approaching the gate so Ooma blended in within the crowd by staying in the middle in between larger beings than himself to cover his figure. Once inside the walls he takes dark alley ways taking notes of the little amount of guards that stationed the Palace itself. This Gand, had a secondary task, place as many thermal mines onto the pillars and buildings that surrounded the palace. This would be a tough assignment for the Gand who was known to have fumbling hands. Ooma studies the guards Patrol patterns and dashes from wall to wall slowly and as quiet as possible placing the thermal mines on few pillars, walls of buildings inside the 'kill zone' Larhr spoke of, and even a few on patrol speeders that the guards left behind.

Then comes the HK's, Larhr equipped them both with small stealth field generators that could put them in and out of stealth for a moderate amount of time before needed a small cool down to be used once more. These two HK's had no issue sneaking pass a few guards at first, but after the timer was up for the stealth, the two Hunter Killer units quickly found cover in a alley, however this alley had a few rioters that really wanted some droids. Unfortunately for the rioters though, the HK's were programmed to kill and take down any threat that could jeopardize the mission. Granted the kills were silent, they were no where near clean kills. All the corpses had massive wounds to the skull, most of them just holes of where the brain once was. These HK's were equipped with silent slug throwing sniper rifles and rail shot wrist gauntlets.

Then came Larhr to the outside wall of the palace. His dark black armor keeping him camouflaged in the night, even if a light was shined on his armor, he made the painting material murdered out so the paint and material doesn't shine from light. He scales the walls as silently as possible using his jetpack at a small thrust amount to keep the sound to a minimum. After scaling around three fourths of the wall, he brings his hands up a bit, his cybernetic claw gently scraping up against the walls. He looks just up the walk way of the wall spotting a single guard coming his way. He springs his hidden blade out and waits patiently for his prey to approach. Once approached Larhr lunges his arm up stabbing the man just under his jaw using his left arm to throw the guard off the ledge. After doing this Larhr presses a button on his gauntlet causing a small EMP blast to disable long range comms and cameras in his vicinity. The cameras would show small static, but it sent the cameras a code to hide Larhrs armor and signature from the camera in the feeds.

With their comms and sensors disabled, some of the guards took to running towards the Palace in an effort to warn their comrades inside. They did not get far...the HKs saw to that.

Within Palace Square, four eyeless, mummified heads - one naturally so, the others not so much - stared in silent witness to the hunting crew making its way towards their quarry. Two were Mirialan, judging by their tattoos; a third was a bald Pureblood Sith; the fourth, though human in appearance, had a bloody and ragged eye-mask wrapped around it, and thus was marked as Miraluka. They had been there for nearly a decade, ever since Malagant had killed them all on Nikaea, just after the cataclysm on Ziost. He had destroyed all of the planet's major population centers afterward, just as he had across the remainder of the Nikaean Empire - punishment for their insurrections against the Sith, and for aligning with the Revanites.

Overhead, the Hamadrya flew low, approaching the landing pad adjacent to the Imperial-style building where Insomnius held court...

----

In her sanctum, Insomnius stiffened as she felt a presence in the Force. There were intruders in the Palace grounds...one of whom felt familiar...

Not that it mattered now, she supposed, watching the ship land on the landing pad. She had killed her share of attackers in recent days, and with Destane here, the work would be much easier...

With Tegan and Wrawn's job done. They began to sneak their way out of the palace and city grounds. Their jobs were to save civilians, not to fight, they knew their jobs. However, on their way out they ran into a guard patrol and both had to quickly find cover. Wrawn being a wookie rushed behind a bush and lied low to the ground, and for the red Trandoshan, well. He hid behind a wall only for a few of the guards in the patrol to be scared shitless by the horrifying screech of a very hungry Trandoshan. Most of the guards ran, one went straight to Wrawns position only to be clothes lined straight back into the ground. That patrol was going to be late in check in safe to say.

Ooma wasn't a fighter, he was more of a get in, get information, or sabotage and run like hell. So once his job was done he was sprinting alley way through alley way, up until he ran smack into the back of a rather large Ithorian. To which Ooma spoke in his native tongue,
"This Gand is sorry. This Gand go away now like nothing happened. This Gand gonna run now." Ooma did turn to run, up until the Ithorian grabbed the Gand by the shoulder and shoved him to a wall. Ooma being a bit startled now, "This Gand not stupid. Does Ithorian take Credits? Or charge?" The Ithorian tilted his head at the 'charge' comment, up until Ooma took a hold out blaster and stuffed the barrel to the mans stomach and fired away. Holdout blasters weren't exactly known for damage, that's not accounting for a trigger happy Gand that over reacts most the time. After the encounter the Gand ran off and made his way back to the ship.

Towering over the body count, the two HK's gave a nod and went back into stealth leaving the scene of the crime. They make their way into the guard rooms without being detected, but they do have a few close calls. However, once out of the barracks they make their way to the upper throne room balcony were the builders kept in case for repairs of attack. This gave the HK's a great vantage point in case if the job goes under.

Larhr was already at the one of the doors, his probe droids giving him a feed of the surrounding area, the ship that landed was going to be an issue, he couldn't leave witnesses a single witness can and will ruin his chance of keeping a clean record without being identified. As the ship landed, the guards were to focused on saluting rather than paying attention to their own surroundings. Using this to his advantage, Larhr flies up into a tower over looking the craft, he knelt down and began to type in a code in his gauntlet. Once the code was finished he arched forward and low and behold, his jetpack rocket soars in the air coming straight down for the landed craft. While the missile was in the air. Larhr jumped out of the tower before the security lights turned on to give away his position. He landed on top of the palace overlook, the one that showed the throne room down below through pains of glass. Now all that Larhr did was wait.

The windows in that wing of the Palace shattered as the Hamadrya exploded on the landing pad, but by that point, the pilot had already disembarked and entered the Palace. Alarms began ringing across the courtyard, but there was nearly no one to answer the call. Seeing it as a signal to march, the pro-Imperial rioters began to smash through the security gates surrounding the Palace and its main central square.

In her sanctum, Insomnius shook her head and picked herself up off the floor, her robes slashed by flying glass. Blood weeped from the cuts, and the pain fueled her rage. "Who dares...WHO DARES?!" she shrieked in fury. Hearing footsteps approaching, she turned to see Lord Destane. But with her Force sight, she knew immediately that something was wrong...he was dark, empty. His movements were mechanical, not those of a man narrowly escaping being blown up. Revulsion took hold in her as she realized what had happened.

He was dead. And there was only one reason why the Shadren monarchs would send her emissary back to her as a corpse...

"Vedriat, you backstabbing bitch," Insomnius snarled, as her hand went to her lightsaber. As if mirroring her, the corpse drew its own weapon.

During the commotion in Insomnius' chambers, the HK's stood still and quiet just as they were commanded to. One HK, however began to speak silently as possible to relay a message to Larhr, "Statement: Scans indicate two beings, while life sign scans only show one. How peculiar." After the message was sent they awaited for their next command. They were built and programmed by Larhr himself, so they didn't want to disappoint.

Larhr brings his wrist comm under his chin,
"Got it. Thanks for the read outs. Your jobs are done here HK's, rendezvous back to the ship and await further instruction." The HK's nod to each other and make their way out of the palace and off the Palace grounds. Larhr gave them enough time to get off the grounds before making his way in himself. Using his flamethrower, he sets it so no flame would rush from the gauntlet, rather a small welder like fire with an extreme edge to the tip of the flame. Bringing the gauntlet to the pane of glass he stood on, he slowly made a large enough circle pattern to fit himself in. Before the glass could break off, he uses his force power to lift up the pane of glass and set it on top of whole pane itself.

After doing so, Larhr falls through the hole he had made and uses his jet pack near the end of his fall to make it 'as silent' as possible. The thrust and the landing could be heard in the room he was in, but that was to be expected with all the gear he was carrying. That's when he noticed something off, through on of the door ways he noticed a distinct amount of light coming his way. However, this light was crimson red and clashes of lightsabers only worried his one concern, someone else was here that may have to be killed.

Larhr thinks quickly and hides behind on of the large statues as he keeps a small portion of his helmet and visor just in view of the door. The door comes crashing down with a furry, Larhr quickly turning back keeping his back against the statue. He looks back knowing he used his only jet rocket he had on the landed ship. He was going to have to be creative for this one.

He limited his options, on one hand he had his rifle clipped to his back and could possibly scale the statue and pop off two quick shots, however with that option he could be easily seen before reaching the top, or have his shots deflected back at him giving away his position. On the other hand he has his electro darts and nets that he could use to possibly disable the two duelists. But, this option could prove more dangerous if the dart and net were flung back at him with their force power. And on his hypothetical third hand, he could either catch them off guard with his pistols while they had their backs to him, or use a blaster and lightsaber combo that he has used before.

After somewhat quick thinking and planning he went with his last option, lightsaber and blaster combo. He still had the element of surprise after all. Nodding to himself he brings up his wrist comm,
"Viv, prepare the ship for Kill zone maneuver on my command. I want you close by when I give the signal." On the other end of the transmission Viv, spoke in binary, "Viv= Command registered and Ship being used. Fun times await!"

Larhr couldn't help but chuckle at the response of his astromech droid. He brings out his heavily modified blaster pistol with phrik bayonet under the barrel, and his custom hilted lightsaber which was a mix of his mother's and father's hilt combined. He launches himself in the air firing the blaster pistol at will igniting it's bright golden yellow blade as he now begins his duel with fate on the bounty.

Insomnius looked up immediately as Larhr landed, deflecting the shot he sent at her...her rage rising as she now recognized the essence in the Force. "YOU!" she screamed.

The corpse of Destane, however, was not so distracted - as its blade came within a split-second of cutting the Miraluka in half. Insomnius stepped into the shadows, disappearing from the sight of both of her intended assassins - the hunter who had mocked her in this very room, and the meat puppet that had been her ambassador to Shadren.

With its target gone, the corpse stood for a moment...then, with mechanically stiff movements, turned its attention to Larhr.

Larhr only chuckled at the now reeling Queen of the planet, "You put this on yourself for not accepting my offer for the safety of the civilians! So now you're the one going down!" Larhr yells out before she disappeared into the shadows. He scowled only for a moment as his target had made an escape, "Viv target is running. Bring the ship to the palace and let no ship from the palace escape!" Larhr yelled into his wrist comm now realizing the second figure in the room was now looking at him.

Larhr kept his lightsaber ignited and his blaster in hand just in case of a encounter with the being,
"We are on the same side. We both want the Queen dead. So how about we work together to get what we want yeah?" "Larhr asked the being for a moment. Whether or not the corpse would listen or not was the issue.

From the shadows of the room, a voice called out, "And so you betray me to Malagant, a perpetual liar with billions of dead on his hands? You're an idiot..."

The corpse did not speak, did not think, did not even consider the reply. Upon hearing the voice, it began to search...not finding what it was looking for, it turned back to Larhr...and then it attacked. Its movements were stiffened by death, but precise - perhaps muscle memory of the Sith Assassin it had once been.

Larhr looks to the shadows while keeping his eyes on the corpse coming at him, "Unlike you he actually agreed to spare the people. Something you and your 'King' can't do! I'm doing this to rid your corruption from this Galaxy!"

Larhr looks back to the corpse bringing up his lightsaber to clash with the corpse's saber as well. He shook his head, "If only you knew you could..." He would continue, but then he noticed the neck wound and spine wound on the body, realizing that the corpse could not in fact will itself from the influence of outside forces. After shaking his head he kept the clash, taking advantage of the somewhat mindless corpse, bringing his right hand to the corpses temple, "If only you could be saved as well."

After speaking, Larhr activated his hidden blade to try and penetrate the corpses skull puncturing the brain, the blackened and cold blood splattering his armor. He shook his head and brings his attention to the shadows, now activating his night scan inside his helmet to look around the room. "Show yourself coward, or I will bring this entire Palace to the ground! How would the King and Queen think about that?!"

The corpse twitched, spasmed, and finally collapsed as the Jedi-child's saber struck true. The body had at last joined the spirit in death.

Laughter echoed around the room. "Look upon the freak on the floor, Jedi spawn," came the reply from the shadows. "See what the so-called King and Queen think of me. You think this thing came here to stop you? No...they have betrayed me. And you are a fool if you believe Malagant will uphold his promises...and even more of a fool if you think you can deliver what you promised to him!"

Lightning shot out from the shadows in Larhr's direction.

Larhr listened and continued to shake his head as the shadows spoke to him. It made him laugh as he keeps his saber ignited and blaster in hand, "Just because my parents were Jedi, doesn't make me one. I am a kriffing bounty hunter, with hidden talents. I am no Jedi." Larhr spoke in anger. He usually accepted that his parents were Jedi and people mistaking him for a Jedi as well, but not from targets he was hunting down.

The lightning flashed light from behind Larhr, he only had mere seconds to react. His body was shocked as his armor took most of the brunt shock from the lightning itself. He launched himself into a pillar using his armored side to take the hit. There were multiple cracks that echoed from his rib cage. His saber de-igniting as he fired multiple charges of tibana gas towards the area where the lightning shot out.

Slowly, he lifts himself up as coolant in his armor began to soak the wounded rib cage with kolto gel. Larhr looks up igniting his yellow bladed saber once more. Searching for the pest of a target. Using his night vision, which was heavily damaged from the shock, he saw a faint figure to his left. He leaps in the air igniting his jet pack and held it to full thrust. While in mid air he flips and once his back was arched at the figure. He disengages the jet pack from his armor as it now launches its way to the target.

But, that's not all, the jet pack was pouring gas in the air leaving a trail of fire as it made it's way to the figure. Larhr force pushed himself to follow the jet pack and attempt to clash down to what he hopes to be his target that took the jet pack bait.

Careful to avoid the blaster fire, Insomnius just barely rolled out of the way as the jetpack smashed into the wall, but the fireball from the blast caught her robes, setting them ablaze. Twirling like a ballet dancer, saberstaff in hand with black-cored red blades, she put out the flames...moving around like a crimson blur until, finally, she stood before him, her robes singed and ragged, her flesh seared by the combustables, but otherwise still mobile...still dangerous. Her hands and her weapon crackled with Force lightning.

"You are not the first to challenge me," the Miraluka hissed hatefully. "You will not be the last. Jedi, Sith, Knights...all have fallen before my blade. You will be no different, you bottom-feeding hypocrite."
